According to Wikipedia, the term Paying it Forward “is an expression for describing the beneficiary of a good deed repaying the kindness to others rather than paying it back to the original benefactor.”
It is a term that can be used in many different situations; on social media you may have seen videos of people paying for other people’s shopping or paying their bill in a restaurant and simply saying “pay it forward”.
The beauty of paying it forward lies in its simplicity. It doesn’t require grand gestures or significant resources. It can be a simple act of kindness: holding the door open for someone (although you would like to think that this is something everyone should do), offer a helping hand to someone in need.
The hope is that these simple acts will create a ripple effect- when someone experiences an act of kindness, they are often inspired to pass it on to others. This will create a society where kindness is prevalent.
Charities rely heavily on kindness and people’s desire to help others less fortunate than themselves. For many, this is a very personal choice, often people support those charities whose support they themselves have needed or perhaps a friend/family member. By supporting the charity, they are paying it forward by helping that charity provide support for another person in need.
