Payroll Giving donations support RNLI rescues

Ramsgate RNLI crew member rescues person from harbour

At 11.31am on Boxing Day the launch of Ramsgate RNLI’s inshore lifeboat (ILB) was requested to assist a person who had jumped into the town’s inner harbour.

After a concerned member of the public reported the matter to the owners of the harbour-side Mariners Bar, knowing their connection to the RNLI, Natasha Crome telephoned to report the incident whilst her Ramsgate crew member partner Jason Crome (second mechanic and ILB helm) attended the scene opposite his Bar.

Jason waded in down the harbour access steps and pulled the person out of the water all before a full lifeboat crew had assembled. With the help of ambulance staff and fire crew, the person was carried up the steps and placed on to an awaiting stretcher.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution is the charity that saves lives at sea. Our volunteers provide a 24-hour search and rescue service in the United Kingdom and Ireland from 238 lifeboat stations, including four along the River Thames and inland lifeboat stations at Loch Ness, Lough Derg, Enniskillen and Lough Ree. Additionally the RNLI has more than 1,000 lifeguards on over 240 beaches around the UK and operates a specialist flood rescue team, which can respond anywhere across the UK and Ireland when inland flooding puts lives at risk.

The RNLI relies on public donations and legacies to maintain its rescue service. As a charity it is separate from, but works alongside, government-controlled and funded coastguard services.
