This weekend both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats revealed some of their election pledges ahead of the publication of their manifestos next week.
Yesterday the Liberal Democrats said they would invest an extra £6bn a year in health and social care, paid for through an immediate 1p rise in all rates of income tax. Funding will be ring-fenced and targeted in areas that have greatest impact on patient care such as social care, general practice, mental health and public health.
Today Theresa May announced several mental health-related measures:
Conservatives will replace the flawed Mental Health Act to tackle longstanding problems of discrimination and overuse of detentionSweeping reform of the Equalities Act to protect those with mental health conditions from discrimination at workCommitment to 10,000 more staff working in NHS mental health services by 2020.
