People who flee their homes often leave with next to nothing. Gounandji Bienvenu and Damboy Charlotte were forced to run by violence in the Central African Republic in December 2013. All they could take were their identity cards, plastic sheets, and a Bible.
Hundreds of thousands of people were caught up in the crisis. Many were still living in temporary shelters years later.
In a temporary settlement, doing everyday things can be very tough. Syrian refugees in Akkar, northern Lebanon, face extra challenges just to collect water, wash their clothes or educate their children.
If you had to run from your home, where would you go? What would you take with you? How would you protect your children?
